In response to the State Water Resource Control Board declaring that Visalia has to cut its water usage by 32 percent, Visalia updated their water ordinance at their June 15 meeting. The changes go into effect immediately.
Cal Water suggested that Visalia cut its watering days to twice a week for 12 months. This would result in a 22 percent reduction in water use. Combined with the new water budgets, Cal Water believes that Visalia can reach its goal of 32 percent reduction.
The city council decided to go one step further and completely eliminate the watering days for December, January and February. Cal Water had projected that eliminating those days in December, January and February would save Visalia one more percent in water use.
