The Spring 2015 issue of West Hills Magazine is now available online. The fourth issue of the magazine highlights the district’s emphasis on student success, achievements by student athletes both on and off the field and the increasing role of technology in the district’s classrooms.
“West Hills Magazine examines the results of our efforts in the ‘relentless’ approach to student success in this issue,” said Frank Gornick, chancellor of West Hills Community College District, in his welcome column in the magazine.
This 28-page issue delves into several big topics, including how WHCCD’s early adoption of educational plans for students, priority registration and the use of technology has impacted campuses and how WHCCD was ahead of the curve in this approach.
The district’s push to conserve energy on its campuses and in its offices is featured.
The issue also highlights student achievements on both campuses, including the unprecedented 10-1 season of the WHCC Coalinga Falcons football team and the recent naming of three All-Americans on the WHCC Lemoore Men’s soccer team.
An inside look at WHCC Coalinga’s effort to reach foster youth through a foster youth support program is offered as well as a look at the district’s unique Employee Scholar’s Program, which allows employees to go back to school with funding from the district.
Finally, the success of a former WHCC team roper is discussed and how his experience helped him become a Hollywood stunt man.
The magazine is available in an online version on the district website and printed copies will be mailed to donors and friends of WHCCD.
