Visalia Music School has over 20 professional musicians who instruct almost every instrument, including voice. VMS chooses teachers who demonstrate a calm, caring and patient attitude with a strong degree of professionalism.
“Our goal is for the students to enjoy their learning experience and play their instruments with confidence,” said music director Amber Hilton.
This summer, the school will again offer 1-on-1 music instruction for all ages. The school will also conduct “music camps” that will accommodate all ages – from preschool music appreciation, and girl’s (8-12) rock camp, to high school rock camp. Each age will have different teachers and goals. The rock camps will mainly focus on guitar, piano, drums and vocals. The school also has a youth Mariachi Band available and always needs new members to keep this rich cultural tradition alive.
“We promise that this summer will be fun,” said Dan Meyers of VMS.
Located close to the corner of Mooney Boulevard and Whitendale Avenue, the school has a 2,400-square-foot facility with ten classrooms and a state-of-the-art recording studio. Matt Sublet, recording engineer, is currently starting a Pro Tools 11 class. He is also available to record individuals and bands.
“Visalia Music School Teen Band performs at local events, and most recently at the Three River’s Music Festival,” said band manager Chris Hancock. Highlights of this event, which focuses on teens ages 12-17, can be seen at visaliamusicschool.com.
“We have many bands and ensembles available and ready for booking,” said Jana Meyerstein, school founder.
La Sierra Military Academy now has a marching band, thanks to Angelica Zermano, Chief Andrade and Visalia Music School. They recently performed for veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Gulf War over the Memorial Day weekend. Both Randy Poland and Robert Giddings have been teaching these cadets drums and trumpet.
