The CrisCom Company presented its “Leader for America” award to Ruiz Foods founder Fred Ruiz for his dedication and commitment to the youth in our community. Ruiz was honored at a reception at the CrisCom Company’s Central Valley Headquarters on December 16.
In 1964, Fred and his father, Louis F. Ruiz, started Ruiz Foods to sell frozen Mexican foods based on the recipes of Fred’s mother, “Grandma Rosie.” With a strong passion for community involvement, volunteerism and giving, Ruiz Foods and its team members founded Ruiz 4 Kids in 1991. The nonprofit organization enhances the lives of children and youth in the company’s surrounding communities, supporting education and programs that serve their critical needs.
“Each year, Ruiz Foods generously supports numerous organizations in the Central Valley that focus on improving the lives of children through arts, health, sports, recreation and education,” said Charles “Chuck” Jelloian, CrisCom Company president and CEO. “Truly, Mr. Ruiz is a well deserving recipient, not only for his entrepreneurial success in building a national company from humble beginnings, but also because of his philanthropic work.”
Ruiz 4 Kids has awarded millions of dollars in scholarships, and has provided opportunities that inspire hope and change in children’s lives locally and nationally.
In 1983, as demand grew for the Ruiz Foods products, the U.S. Small Business Administration recognized the company’s hard work, dedication and innovative business practices. That year, Fred and his father were presented with the United States Small Business Persons of the Year award by President Ronald Reagan in the Rose Garden of the White House. The company was later inducted into the United States Small Business Administration Hall of Fame in Washington, D.C.
Established in 1997, The CrisCom Company is a nationwide governmental affairs, business development and public relations firm with corporate headquarters located in Chatsworth.
